Plant ('13) Makes His Mark on New Campus

Riley Plant ('13)

SBA alum/postgraduate Riley Plant ('13) won't need a hardhat and shovel where he is headed next year.

Plant will join the Middlebury College class of 2018 next fall, following completion of a PG year here at Sugar Bowl Academy which saw the alpine ski-racing standout pounding nails, shoveling dirt, driving a forklift, and running hardware store errands as a wage-working laborer at our new campus site.

Plant started networking for jobs locally after deciding late last school year to further develop his alpine ski-racing skills in preparation for collegiate-level competition through Sugar Bowl Academy and Ski Team's postgraduate program. After exploring his options, he opted to join the construction crew right next door to where he had finished his high school studies.

Word is he has made his mark, signing his name for posterity somewhere within the walls of both of our new academic and residential facilities.

"Working on the new campus has been a great learning experience for me over the last four months. I never knew how many different things went into the construction of a building and I will certainly walk away from this job with a great appreciation for those that work in the construction industry. Although I have seen myself become more accustomed to the physical demands of labor, I have immense respect for those that do these jobs their entire lives. All in all, I have learned a ton and I am glad I challenged myself, but I am very much looking forward to college." - Riley Plant ('13)
